Mildura Airport’s Instrument Landing System (ILS) has been commissioned and is now operational.
The ILS, funded by $2 million from the previous Coalition Government under the Community Grants Program along with $1 million from Mildura Rural City Council and $1 million from the airport itself, will greatly increase aviation safety for users of the airport.
“The ILS will allow aircraft to land in low visibility conditions such as fog and heavy rain,” Member for Mallee Dr Anne Webster said.
“This will cut down on flight delays caused by poor weather for those travelling to Mildura.
“This project was a significant investment in the region by the Coalition I was able to deliver when in Government, under a funding program which Labor has now scrapped, and I am proud it has now come to fruition.”
Mildura Airport Pty Ltd CEO Trevor Willcock was excited the ILS was now fully functional after the hard work of the Mildura Airport Operations team over the past three years of planning and installation.
“This precision navigational aid will greatly enhance aircraft and passenger safety at Mildura Airport,” Mr Willcock said.
“I would like to thank Dr Webster for all her efforts in making this safety project a reality as well as the Mildura Rural City Council for the part that they have played in this project too.
“The Mildura Airport strives to achieve the highest levels of safety for our community and the ILS installation is another enhanced safety aid for our busy regional airport.”
