Sustainable Workforce for Australian Agriculture

Image relevant to Issue

The severe mishandling of immigration policies by the Albanese Government has resulted in record migration of 528,000 arrivals, contributing to housing shortages, skyrocketing rents, and a cost-of-living crisis.

Under Minister Giles, seven murderers, 37 sex offenders, and 72 violent offenders were released into our communities with minimal supervision. The introduction of Ministerial Direction 99 allowed non-citizen criminals to remain in Australia, with at least one committing murder. More than 42,500 asylum seekers arrived by plane, further exacerbating the crisis.

In areas where we genuinely need targeted immigration leadership,  the Albanese Government’s axing of $47.3 million in funding for Harvest Trail Services from 1 July is a blow to Mallee farmers who need these essential services for securing farm labour.

Yet again Labor is undercutting the farming workforce, as they did when they cancelled the Coalition’s Ag Visa initiative, their inability (until the 11th hour) to see common sense on the 30 hour work week for PALM workers, and raising of the TSMIT (skilled migration income threshold). Yet again you find Labor showing zero regard for regional workforce challenges.

I will continue to speak up about this in Parliament. You can see more about what I’ve been saying on the media page.
