Magnificent Mallee brings our producers to Parliament

Mallee producers will have their chance to showcase their wares to Canberra for the first ever Magnificent Mallee Showcase on Wednesday the 9th of November.

Federal Nationals Member for Mallee Anne Webster said the showcase at Parliament House was the perfect opportunity to highlight what Mallee has to offer.

“I’ve already been bragging about how good Mallees produce is to fellow Parliamentarians, now they can taste and see themselves!” Dr Webster said.

“Their tastebuds will tell them so much more about how wonderful Mallee is.”

Dr Webster said Mallee’s diversity was something to be proud of, leading to a wide variety of different products.

“From top to bottom we are one of the most diverse electorates in Australia, owing to Mallee’s climatic and geographical diversity,” she said.

“What is grown and produced in the river country in Sunraysia and Swan Hill to the north is different to the crops and livestock in southern end in the Grampians, Central Goldfields and Wimmera.

“Of course, some of what is produced is grown in both: and it is all top shelf.”

Mildura Regional Development CEO Brett Millington said the showcase was a great opportunity for producers.

“It is really about giving us exposure to representatives from across Australia,” he said.

“It allows them to them advocate for our producers to their own constituents (and) awareness of our brand on a national scale.”

Mr Millington highlighted Australian Bureau of Statistics figures which highlighted Mallee as key to Australia’s farming production.

The Mildura Local Government Area was the most valuable region in terms of agricultural output in Australia across 2020-21, with an output of $1,132,670,496.

Swan Hill ($760,139,509), Yarriambiack ($607,394,461) and Loddon ($599,369,536) also made the top 20.

Magnificent Mallee will run at Parliament House in Canberra from 5:30pm-8:00pm.
