Drought Communities Program projects approved for Yarriambiack Shire

People living in the Yarriambiack Shire will benefit from $1 million in additional Liberal National Government funding to support community infrastructure and other drought-relief projects through the expanded Drought Communities Program.

Projects such as the Community owned and operated fuel facility in Minyp will mean that the residents of Minyip no longer have to leave town in order to keep their vehicles fuelled.

Federal Member for Mallee, Anne Webster said the Drought Communities Program is helping to keep local economies going even through the tough times caused by the drought.

“This program is so important because it helps keep people working, helps keep cash-flowing going and ensures that local businesses can keep operating,” Dr Webster said.

“This investment is a great local example of how this Liberal National Government is delivering long-lasting benefits to communities and the agricultural communities on which they depend through investment in both the DCP and our broader drought support package.”

Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management David Littleproud MP said the program would create jobs for people struggling to find work because of drought.

“Make no mistake, we’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with drought-hit communities in Mallee,” Minister Littleproud said.

“We’ve committed more than $8 billion to drought and that includes investments to make our communities resilient and better prepared for the next drought.

“The $3.5 million combined project value, over the 3 rounds of DCP, we’re spending in Yarriambiack will run right through the community when workers have more money to spend at the local shops.”
