Member for Mallee Dr Anne Webster has announced a Dutton-Littleproud Coalition Government would provide $2.8 million to rebuild the clubrooms and make other upgrades to Nhill & District Sporting Club’s facilities at Davis Park.
The announcement comes after Stage 1 grandstand and related works are underway, made possible in part thanks to the former Coalition Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
“It is my great privilege to back the Nhill community with this significant election commitment to provide the clubrooms and facilities they deserve,” Dr Webster said.
Stage 2 will deliver a new Community Function Centre and Clubrooms, featuring a kitchen, canteen, bar, and covered spectator area.
“This exciting development will enhance community engagement, provide modern amenities and support local sporting and social events, creating a vibrant and inclusive gathering space for all,” Dr Webster said.
“I was excited to discuss these upgrades in Nhill on Wednesday with the Club and Hindmarsh Shire representatives.”
Hindmarsh Shire will make a $400,000 in-kind contribution to ensure the facility becomes a reality.
“I have to be clear, I can only make this funding a reality if the Coalition wins the upcoming election,” Dr Webster said.
“The Albanese Labor government has reduced spending in Mallee by a factor of 20 to 1, $2 billion versus just $100 million over this last three years compared to my first term in office under a Coalition government. My hope is that projects like Davis Park Stage 2 will be the beginning of Mallee getting back its fair share of federal spending.”
Dr Webster recently criticised the Albanese Government’s failure to provide a single housing grant to Mallee under the Regional Housing Support program, referring that program to the Auditor-General.
Mallee Councils have consistently told Dr Webster that Federal and Victorian Labor’s co-funding demands make it incredibly difficult to successfully apply for funding.
“The Coalition is contributing close over 85 per cent of the estimated $3.2 million cost towards this project, which will be welcome relief to shires like Hindmarsh Shire Council after Labor starved shires with prohibitive project criteria and co-funding expectations,” Dr Webster said.
