The Liberal and Nationals Government is committing $13.5 million towards the Murray River Adventure Trail to boost Mildura’s liveability and provide greater walking, running and cycling paths for residents and tourists.
The completion of a continuous trail along the river from Red Cliffs to Yelta will provide all members of the community an option to keep active, whether they walk, run or ride. The project will connect and develop iconic sites along the river.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the Murray River Adventure Trail is expected to attract around 75,000 visitors annually to Mildura and create between 26 and 30 full time jobs.
“In addition, it is estimated to generate between $2.6 and $3 million annually for the local Mildura economy meaning that everyone from a motelier, café owner through to the local gift shop will benefit from an iconic walking trail being developed for the region.”
Federal Member for Mallee Anne Webster welcomed the project saying that it would boost tourism to the region.
“Mildura is already a highly successful and sought after tourist destination for Regional Victoria, and the Adventure Trail will build on this even further,” Dr Webster said.
“The riverfront track is a place that many people get out and about and enjoy the Murray River. This funding we are announcing today expands the track to Merbein and beyond and will attract adventurous and active tourists to Sunraysia. I have fought hard for this because physical activity is so important and so good for all who participate.
“No doubt that people young and old, families, friends and individuals will enjoy the scenery of the mighty Murray River while enjoying being active in the sunshine here in Mallee.
“This is another example of how the Nationals in Government are backing regional communities to boost local economies and build the region to be the most enviable places to live, work or travel to.”
Only the Coalition Government will continue to deliver a better future for regional communities as part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
