Member for Mallee Anne Webster today welcomed a group of charity runners who are running through the electorate to raise money and awareness for CJD.
The runners left Adelaide on Saturday and will arrive in Terang on Friday, spending the night in Mildura and Hopetoun on their way.
The Run for CJD is raising awareness and money for Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) — a rare and incurable disease that causes the brain to degenerate, leading to dementia and death.
Each year about 50 people in Australia die from the disease. Every runner taking part in the charity run has a personal connection to the disease.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan is one of the 12 runners taking part.
“CJD is a terrible disease with no cure, this charity wants to highlight there is a support and information available to people impacted by the disease as well as raising money for research,” Mr Tehan said.
“I miss my mum every day and this run is one of the ways I honour her memory just like the other runners who honouring the memory of someone they loved.

Dr Webster said "Commonwealth surveillance of prion diseases including CJD shows Victoria is equal second highest in the nation for deaths per million per annum. With the long-term average being 1 per 625,000 Victorians, the Run for CJD raises community awareness because early detection and preventative health care are vital for regional Victorians."
